Xavier University in Cincinnati introduces cutting-edge majors in AI, cybersecurity, neuroscience, and microbiology

Cincinnati, Ohio – Xavier University has announced the launch of five new undergraduate majors set to begin in the fall of 2025. These programs, which include artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, genetics, neuroscience, and microbiology, represent a significant expansion of the university’s academic catalog and underscore its commitment to pioneering education in critical and emerging fields.

According to Xavier University’s Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Rachel Chrastil, the introduction of these majors is a strategic response to the evolving demands of the global job market and a commitment to equip students with future-facing skills.

“These new majors align with our commitment to providing students with a cutting-edge education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the future,” said Xavier University Provost and Chief Academic Officer Rachel Chrastil. “We are excited to leverage our existing strengths in health sciences, computer science and the humanities to provide students with rigorous experiential preparation in high-demand fields while emphasizing the responsible use of science and technology, preparing our students to be leaders who make a difference.”

The artificial intelligence major will be an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for the rapidly advancing tech sector. It will focus on areas such as machine learning, robotics, and natural language processing, with an emphasis on ethical implications and social impacts. The cybersecurity major aims to address the increasing threats to digital security by providing robust training in programming, systems analysis, and compliance. This program will include opportunities for practical experience and is designed to meet standards set by the National Security Agency’s Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense.

For those interested in the life sciences, the genetics major will offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes molecular biology and genomics, aiming to prepare students for careers in research and healthcare.
